about

This was the first album released by The Peach Tree whilst the project was in its early stages and had more members. It was named "The Gus Sessions" both because it was Angus' solo stuff, and because there were plans to release accompanying solo efforts under the other band members' names, mainly "The Cooney Sessions". The band never got around to recording anything together though, or releasing any more band members' material, so as The Peach Tree morphed into Angus' solo project, The Gus Sessions was released as a lone soldier and cursory introduction to the depth and complexity of his work. It is very lo-fi and amateurish, recorded with a very basic set-up, yet despite this and perhaps because of it, the album has a distinct charm. It leaps about from moody sweet acoustic pop to techno to epic tales and synthpop, whilst staying consistent with themes of love, sex, drugs and dreams.

Notes:

*When I recorded this I had no experience whatsoever with either recording or converting files to MP3 and uploading to the net.

*The crackle is due to the audio being fed into a mini-disc player, then back into the computer.

*The resulting 128Kbps MP3s are the highest quality that this audio exists in (egads, I know), due to me converting the .wav files directly into compressed MP3 and deleting the original .wavs as I went. I know, I know, stupid.

*The 128Kbps MP3s have since been converted to .wav prior to uploading to Bandcamp for archiving, and the subsequent re-compression of the these files if downloading as MP3 should result in one of the lowest quality digital recordings you can get that still pass as music. Believe me, this was not intentional.

*Many parts, particularly the synth, were recorded live with the rest of the audio as it went into the mini-disc player, meaning the possibility of doing another mix-down of these tracks, whilst preserving the original arrangement, is impossible.

*The only way to get a hi-fi version of this album would be for me to re-do everything from scratch, which I'm not going to do.
