Say A Word
Write It Down
Throw A Card
In The Ring
Circle Drawn In Blood
Protect Against The Light
Insane Ritual
Rain Drips
From The Goddess' Luscious Lips
Don't Turn Your Back On Your Sin
Open Up And Let The Demons In
Let The Demons In...
The trust I place in friends is returned to me
A thousand fold in reams of love,
Spun in laughter, smiles and companionship,
All from empty pockets.
From the void grows a light,
That I can no longer ignore.
From the Void grows a Light.
Don't stop looking up now.
My synaesthesiac friend
Our love will never end
And my younger Gemini brother
Born from another mother
Smiles we share
Milestones compare
I look up to you
And see the sky
A brilliant hue
Clouds floating by
My mother cries as she tries and tries
And my father's pain that he denies
All to keep me warm and safe
In eider downs of pure-love's make
My family will always be there
Through thick and thin
I know that I can no longer
Deny the Light within
The Light within
...
My family will always be there
Through thick and thin
I can no longer deny
The Light within
The Light within
The Light within my soul
The Light within my soul
The Light within my soul
about
Magick, in the broadest sense, is any act designed to cause intentional change.
This spelling of the word was coined by Aleister Crowley, adding the 'k' to distinguish it from stage magic and other practices. He defined the term as "the science and art of causing change to occur in conformity with the will." By this, he included "mundane" acts of will as well as ritual magic. Everything from banking to growing carrots can be considered "magick", yet in today's world most people apply it to supernatural occurences.
However, magick is not capable of producing "miracles" or violating the physical laws of the universe (e.g., it cannot cause a solar eclipse), although it is theoretically possible to cause in any object any change of which that object is capable by nature.
I use the term to describe this album, as the process of creating it and hopefully of listening to it is intended to be a transformation.
The tracks, in order, are:
Dark
Black Magick
Blue Magick
White Magick
Light
I entertain notions of a certain kind of magick that I allow myself to believe because of personal experience; that being the magick of energy. Everything around and within us is energy, literally (E=MC^2), and metaphysically. By visualising seemingly ordinary things like conversation or music as "energy", one can visualise "energy magick", the act of causing change in the energy within or around someone or something, and thus a change in the thing that the energy pertains to. For example, interrupting a conversation causes a change in the energy flow of that conversation: an act of energy magick has taken place.
The intended effect of this album is to perform magick, mainly for myself, the creator, but hopefully for the listener too. It is intended as a cleansing, lightening and purifying of the spirit, starting off with base or Dark energy and working progressively through to ethereal Light energy, the journey taking the listener through three stages of magick along the way.
Black Magick is irresponsible and negative, but it is a natural side effect of Dark energy and therefore must follow on from the track "Dark". I did not include any lyrics in the track "Black Magick" out of a need to keep it detached and controlled. (Sceptic or not, if you mess with that stuff it will fuck you up).
Blue magick, at the centre of the album, is the transitional period, being both meditative and in some ways peaceful yet also intentionally trippy, necessitated by the powerful act of transmuting "Dark" into "Light".
White Magick is the last process of this three-stage transmutation, an uplifting song where I pour my heart and soul into both the lyrics and music, preparing the listener for the last track.
By the time we arrive at "Light", hopefully the act of magick has been performed; spirits are lifted, smiles are shared. At least for me, this album has been a very emotional and significant journey, from brooding darkness into upbeat lightness, that I do not hesitate to label as "magickal".
The Peach Tree was the solo project of musician, songwriter and producer Angus Maiden, from Melbourne, Australia. He released 14 albums, 5 EPs and a best-of compilation under the name.
Bleak, throbbing work that lands halfway between coldwave and shoegaze, this Berlin group hits that spot just under the breastbone. Bandcamp New & Notable Feb 15, 2017
